About JUSTUS JUNKIE, INC.

JUSTUS JUNKIE started with a viral video.

As she walked out of the main courthouse in Chicago, where she had worked first as an assistant Public Defender and later as a private attorney, Attorney April Preyar recorded a less than 2 minute video called, “4 Things Not to Do If Stopped by Police.”

Twenty-four hours later, the video had 1.2 million views! Many viewers posted comments and asked questions. Preyar knew then that she needed to share the information she had learned in the then-19 years of her practice in a public forum on a regular basis.

Soon after posting that video, Preyar printed SHUT UP! LAWYER UP! t-shirts. The demand for the education grew. She then began to work on a board game prototype. She called the game, “Trials & Triumph.”

After play-testing the game on 300 high school students, she launched the final product to the marketplace.

The game led to the creation of workshops and online seminars and eventually she created Street Law Revolution! curriculum. Preyar, a previous law school and undergraduate professor, put her teaching experience to use. She recruited young, passionate attorneys to assist her to teach in schools and non-profit orgs.

Each attorney brought their own style and cadre of courtroom “war stories.”

The combination of the board game and the lived experience of the attorneys and their clients created the magic that is JUSTUS JUNKIE, Inc.
